THE MISSING BODY

The Missing Body by Kerry Wilkinson
Narrated by Rebecca Lee
Genre: crime fiction
Format: ebook & audiobookAudiobook

I ran to get help. But her body disappeared. Will anyone believe me?

Megan is unpacking in the spare room of her sister’s house when she hears the scream.

Racing to the nearby woods, she is shocked to see a young woman’s unconscious body: her pink top bright against the earth, her long, dark hair wet from a nearby stream. But when desperate Megan returns with the police, all they find is empty woodland.

She’s been through so much, her sister whispers, welcoming her home with a kind smile. You can’t blame her for seeing things.

But Megan knows what she saw — and her past shouldn’t come into it. Was the young woman dead, or dying? How can a body just disappear?

Megan left home for a good reason. Now, confronting the past could be the only way to find the truth. But what if Megan is in danger, too? And what price will she have to pay, to find the girl from the woods?

My Thoughts:
One thing I can say about this book, it's not a page turner. Thankfully audible has this nifty feature where you could speed up the the narration.

The plot and the theme are good. It just took forever for the story to unfold. The book also gives you the sense that their will be a book 2 in the future...

This is my first Rebecca Lee audiobook and she is not too bad.

My Thoughts:
I was kinda apprehensive going into this book. Book 1, Grimm Up North, had "stupid" elements in it and I was hoping with great sincerity that there wouldn't be any "stupid" in this and further books in this series. Glad to say it wasn't too bad. Wasn't bad at all!

I find that this is not the fastest book to read. Finding myself having to trudge for the first three quarters of the book before interest picks up. But interest do pick up!

Aubrey Parsons is being his usual wonderful self! Reading this book with style!

My Thoughts:
I had to google the police slang, i.e., IC3 = black suspect, and IC1 = white suspect, to understand the book!...

I like the ever very so slight element of paranormal. Like, it was never even there!

Being an urban fantasy geek, I am not used to twisty plot. So, it came as a surprise!

I like the way the story was told. There was no pretence at being bad-ass. But got the crime solved anyway. Bravo!

This is my first Ellie Kendrick audiobook and she brings the book to life! I also appreciate her attempt at a Welsh accent! It came close!

About A. K. Turner:
A K Turner likes to create memorable characters, throw them into unusual settings, and add a hefty dose of murder and a twisty-turny plot. Her latest book, Body Language, introduces a new kind of forensic heroine - a crime-solving Goth-girl mortuary technician who talks to the dead, a character first launched in two crime shorts aired on BBC Radio 4. A K's previous series, written under the pen name Anya Lipska, starred a London-based Polish fixer who's happy to crack heads to solve crimes - which saw her being selected for Val McDermid's prestigious New Blood Panel at Harrogate Crime Festival in 2012.

A K (aka Ali) lives in East London where she is writing more mortuary-set mysteries. Her day job is producing TV documentaries on true crime and science topics. And just for light relief she is training to be a City of London guide...
