HAVEN Season 3 (iTunes)
HAVEN
Season 3, Episodes 1 to 12
Starring Emily Rose, Lucas Bryant, and Eric Balfour. Directed by T.W. Peacocke. A SyFy TV channel series.
Genre: urban fantasy
Format: iTunes download

About HAVEN TV Series:
Syfy's one-hour drama series Haven, starring Emily Rose (Jericho, Brothers and Sisters) is based on the novella The Colorado Kid from renowned author Stephen King. The series follows the shrewd and confident FBI agent Audrey Parker (Rose) as she arrives in the small town of Haven, Maine on a routine case. Before long, her natural curiosity lands her in the epicenter of activity in this curious enclave, which turns out to be a longtime refuge for people that are affected by a range of supernatural afflictions. The truth about Audrey's mysterious past (which she can't fully remember) starts to come out as well.

As the townspeople's dormant abilities begin to express themselves, Audrey helps keep these forces at bay while discovering the many secrets of Haven — including one surrounding her own surprising connections to this extraordinary place.

The impressive creative team behind Haven includes showrunner Scott Shepherd (Tru Calling, The Dead Zone) who is joined by E1 Entertainment's John Morayniss (Hung, Copper) Noreen Halpern (Hung, Copper), Laszlo Barna (The Bridge) and Michael Rosenberg (Hung, The Riches) as well as his partners, Executive Producers Lloyd Segan and Shawn Piller (The Dead Zone, Wildfire, Greek). The pilot was written by Sam Ernst (The Dead Zone) and Jim Dunn (The Dead Zone) who will also serve as executive producers on the series.

Review:
So episode 1 of Season 3 did pick up where episode 12 of Season 2 left off. I was wondering mightily about that because I was expecting episode 13 of Season 2 to continue where episode 12 ended. So they chopped it up like that. I guess it makes a good marketing tool, but it is very annoying. That is why I buy dvd boxsets so that I could watch the entire season without waiting. I suck at waiting! I like the way this series is going though. I like the thrill of the sense of upcoming resolution or major change in the series story arc. Big event thing. Of course it is still a cliffhanger but in a sense there is a spoilery "arrow" sort of telling everybody what this big event thing is going to be and am happy to leave it there for now. Unlike Season 1, they didn't cut the show in mid-act so to speak but at a spoilery ending. And I think that is why I was happy to leave the show at that cliffhanger junction. Anyway, I like the world building, the story arc, the cinematography and the acting. It is all good to my eyes! Although some minor characters didn't know how to act, I am willing to overlook that because the major characters are all good actors. Wonderful show and am hoping that they would continue to serve the same quality with further seasons of this series! And of course, gotta share with you my sappy favourite scenes:

Empirical Evaluation:
Cinematography = 4.5
Script/Story Itself = 4/5
World building = 5
Attention To Detail = 4.5
Plot = 4
Acting = 4.5

Overall Rating: 4.5 out of 5 cherries

My Thoughts:
Somewhere between the ending of Season 1 and the waiting for the dvd box set of Season 2 turned me into a die-hard fan of this series. And most of the episodes in Season 2 did live up to my expectations. What baffled me is episode 12. It ended in a big, whoopping cliffhanger yet episode 13 did not continue from episode 12. Instead episode 13 was a self-contained show which has it's own plot and involves a totally different problem (WTF!) and it wasn't a cliffhanger.. Only episode 12 was left hanging... It totally confused me! However I really like the way the show is veering towards a romantic angle between Audrey and Nathan. Go Team Nathan!! Another thing I appreciate about this show is that the acting is good! It reminds me that it is so not Sanctuary. Or maybe watching the bad acting in Sanctuary made me more appreciative of the good acting skills in this show. Either way, I love the actors in this series. By the way, Lucas Bryant is pinging my gaydar, does anybody know if he is gay or not?... Anyway, another thing positive about this show is the cinematography, it really looks professional on the screen! It brought the supernatural world of Haven to life. Beautiful!! If not for that episode 12, Season 2 would have garnered a 5 out of 5 rating...

And of course I just gotta share with you my favourite scenes, because somebody's... sappy, sappy, sappy...

Empirical Evaluation:
Cinematography = 4.5
Script/Story Itself = 4
Season Finale = 3
World building = 5
Attention To Detail = 4
Plot = 4
Acting = 4.5

Overall Rating: 4.5 out of 5 cherries

Review:
I'm an old urban fantasy fan so it does not come as a surprise that I love the Haven TV Series. The cinematography is brilliant! The mixing of the live actors/physical set and animated elements is seamless and comes out real and beautiful in the screen. The acting is good. No discernable fakeness. The story is believable. Contained in one town instead of the "holds-true-through-out-the-entire-world-but-only-shows-one-town" kinda thing, so the rest of the world is presumed to be either in chaos or doesn't exist, which a lot of these kind of shows failed to address. So for this show, that one-town-only premise brought the suspension of disbelief up a couple of notches. However the plot that a successful FBI agent would prefer to be a lowly police officer rather than work for the FBI is not quite believable. Okay it can happen. But not quite believable. The other thing which garnered this show a 4.5 rating with me instead of a 5 out of 5, is the ending. It is a big, whooping cliffhanger, and I don't like cliffhangers! Can't wait for the Season 2 dvd box set to arrive in the post!!

And of course I just gotta share with you my favourite scenes, because I'm sappy that way.
