HA! A tough question to ask any author about her book baby.
I read all kinds of books, and there are many shifter books out there, werewolves, lions, and bears; we’ve all seen them. Shifter books can be a fun read, and I thought I could write a superior one. Now there is nothing wrong with steamy romance, but I always want an exciting plot to accompany it. So, I wrote a book that is more than boy meets girl equals instant lust. There is plenty of lust, but there is also conflict and a mystery. The characters are well developed and they aren’t perfect. They are likeable but flawed and damaged as are all real people. The reader discovers their failings, their strengths, and their motivations. The heated attraction builds as a trusting relationship develops. Meanwhile, the mystery and threat grow as well.
Shifter mythology has been around forever. From Native American shapeshifters to ancient Greek mythology, people have found the concept of changing physical forms fascinating. The concept of changing into an animal tugs at our imagination and pushes our boundaries in ways we would like to accept. This book explains where shape shifters originated and how their powers came to be.
Additionally, these memorable characters come from fantastically affluent backgrounds that most of us enjoy reading about but don’t experience. High fashion models and NFL stars aren’t our usual neighbors, but they make for a diverting read. Phoenix is fluent in smartassery and unimpressed by this football player who wants her. Ian has never met a woman who wasn’t interested in his fame and body, but in Phoenix he has met his counterpart. The problem is, he has to keep her alive long enough to make her his.
Romance, mystery, and a killer on the loose make this a great book you will want to read.

“God, brat,” Ford retorted.
Dana’s laughter dwindled when he noticed the rich look of lust on Ford’s face. He’d never ever seen that look on him. He kept his eyes on Ford’s, wanting that look all to himself. Craving that look. He released the air he’d been holding and sucked in a much-needed breath. The temperature in the room spiked thirty degrees as they stared unashamedly at each other. If he weren’t such a gentleman he’d be up off that small loveseat and straddling Ford’s lap before he could erase that look from his face. But first, he had a girlfriend to break up with. Dana was not a cheater. And second, this was all new territory for Ford and he wouldn’t be a jerk and push him into something he wasn’t ready for.
“I better go. It’s late,” Dana said, breaking the tension. As soon as he stood up, he pulled at the hem of his shirt to try to cover his half-hard erection. “I had a good time, Ford.” Dana turned around and groaned under his breath. Why’d I say that? He’d just made it sound like he’d been on a date.
“Me too,” Ford said from close behind him. Dana was relieved Ford didn’t read too much into his choice of words.
Dana put on his coat and slowly made his way to the door, hesitant to leave Ford’s company after only a measly four hours. Ford looked so serious again, like he was debating with himself. The bad guy on his shoulder winning over the good guy on the other. Then everything seemed to move in slow-motion. Ford braced his palm flat on the door beside Dana’s head, mimicking what he’d done earlier, preventing him from leaving. While some might find the action a bit barbaric, Dana’s cock was getting harder and harder. He didn’t move, careful to let Ford go at his own pace. Oh so slowly, Ford brought his right hand up and gently caressed the bristles on Dana’s cheek. Dana just remembered to breathe before he passed out. Ugh, god. The way the man said counselor made Jacob’s balls draw up. He just refrained from closing his eyes and blew out a calming breath. He closed the large Code of Virginia law book on his desk before asking, “How can I help you, Mr. Sterling?”
“Why don’t we try a first name basis, neighbor.” Wylde kept progressing toward Jacob and smoothly eased his tight body in one of the chairs in front of his desk and brought his black suede boot up and propped it on the opposite knee. Jacob inhaled again, immediately wishing he hadn’t. From across the office he could barely see the gold hoop in Wylde’s bottom lip, but up closer, the dim lights made it shine beautifully, as well as the tiny gold barbell in his brow. He smiled, showing off pretty, white teeth. “I just wanted to come over and apologize about the discarded boxes in the hall. I didn’t mean to disrespect the building and I certainly didn’t mean to upset you.”
“I wasn’t upset.” Jacob’s voice was raspy, just shy of husky, and he was sure the wedding planner picked up on it.
Jacob watched him cock his head to the side, his smooth forehead wrinkling. “Wow, if that’s you not upset, then I certainly don’t want to see you when you really are.”
Jacob didn’t think that needed a response, and since he felt a little tongue-tied at the moment, he just maintained eye contact. Light brown eyes stared back at him, and Jacob wasn’t sure if he saw a subtle wink or if it was an eye tick. What bothered Jacob the most was he couldn’t get a good read on the man. He had no clue if he was gay, straight, or bi, because he didn’t have a look that screamed his sexuality. Jacob hated to admit it, but he was enraptured by the wedding planner’s look. His was a style all his own. He had on camel-colored slacks with a matching V-neck sweater; however, it was the black suede dress coat and the suede boots that made him look sexy as fuck. He was caught staring again and the man had sat there and let him. Jacob knew he was busted because there was that smirk again. The one that meant, “Yep, I caught you staring and I bet your dick is at least half-hard.”
His neighbor buttoned his jacket when he stood. “Well, I’ve used up enough of your time. I’m sure you’re a very busy man. You have a good evening.”
Jacob needed to say something, for heaven’s sake. “You as well, Mr. Sterling.”
The man’s back stiffened as he opened the door. He turned, looking Jacob dead in his eyes. “You can call me, Wylde. I don’t care much for formalities. I hope that’s alright with you, Mr. Snowden, or may I call you…?”
It had to be at least five long seconds while Wylde stood there in his door waiting for him to respond.
In a voice that came out rough and too damn soft, he finished Wylde’s sentence, “Jacob.”
Wylde’s lips curled up into a devastatingly seductive smile and he responded in an equally rough and deep tone, “Goodnight, Jacob.” And Wylde gently closed his door.

Smooth stones shifted beneath my feet as I limped toward the dragon’s cave. Anger buzzed in my head with no outlet. Two miles of walking on a sprained ankle hadn’t helped my mood, or the injury. In addition to the ankle, which continued to complain with every step, my left eye felt swollen from a recent blow. The blow itself didn’t bother me so much. Instead, I was concerned by why she hit me and how I got away.
Two miles south lay Barrington, a village sandwiched between the kingdom of Puji and the mountains of Goldoon. Almost five thousand people lived in the village, including the families who had taken me in. Every winter for the past six years one family or another had taken me in as a housekeeper or cook, and shared what little food they had with me; rarely enough to truly satisfy me, or them. Eventually they would start to resent having me there. Thus every year, around the start of spring, I would find some reason to leave.
This year, the reason had reached out and grabbed me by the throat, literally. There was no real love for me there, and hadn’t been since my nanny died almost six years ago. Why should they care about a little orphan girl?
The cave before me wasn’t the adventure others might see. I wasn’t here in a vain attempt to gain treasure or impress someone with my bravery. No one else in the village knew there was a dragon nearby. For me, this was my one escape from the cruelty of the world. The last few feet were the trickiest of all and my injured ankle gave out. I scraped my hand on the cliff in a failed attempt to stop my fall.
“Cortiban’s bones!” The curse escaped my lips. Frustration boiled over and I had to close my eyes to contain the anger. Pulling myself up by grabbing the face of the cliff before me, I put all my anger to the task of overcoming the pain. I kept my eyes shut as I limped through the protective magic hiding the mouth of the cave. If someone watched as I entered, they would see me walk through solid rock.
