Excerpt:
From “34B” by Bill Kte’pi

Flying High: Sexy Stories from the Mile High Club edited by Rachel Kramer Bussel

SWF seeks adventure. 34, attractive, strong, professional, healthy, happy. Seeking that missing piece and a man to take control. Tell me what you have to offer.

Every time the car hit one of those speed bumps on Airline Highway, you think about turning around. This is thrilling, yes—but stupid, too. Stupid to spend this kind of money over a man you’ve never met.

Nancy—be on the flight from Baltimore to Portland: I’ve pasted the itinerary at the bottom of this email. Buy a ticket for seat 34B. I’ll reserve 34C. I’m buying two tickets; I’ll leave C empty until it’s time.

Waiting in line for your ticket, waiting to board, you look at the men around you, even though you know he isn’t one of them. He’ll board the second flight, when you switch planes in Baltimore. You don’t know where he’s from. He doesn’t know where you’re from.

As you go through security, you half hope you’re stopped for something, that the emery board in your purse disqualifies you from air travel, that overzealous air marshals decide you’re a threat to national security—and you get sent home to your matching plates and new stereo and warm safe bed.

You fidget on the plane to Baltimore, unable to concentrate on the paperback you brought in your purse. You glance down at your lap to see if anyone can tell you’re not wearing panties. Baltimore is a forty-seven-minute layover that seems to stretch on for hours.

You board the second plane.

34B—it sounds like a bra size. You don’t even know his name. You gave yours—your real name, though he may assume otherwise—but he never offered his and you didn’t want to ask and have him say no. You didn’t want to establish his right to tell you no that quickly.

This is stupid. But it’s safe, isn’t it?

He pointed that out when you hinted at your uncertainty a month ago: It’s an airplane. What is it you think I can do without you letting me do it?

34C is empty, as he said it would be. You steel yourself, don’t look at the men on the plane. You don’t want to seem eager or desperate or stupid. Maybe he’s up front in first class, or maybe he’s watching you right now. Maybe he’s changing his mind. It’s 3:00 a.m. Eastern Time, and scattered passengers are asleep or reading. Most of them were here when you boarded. You didn’t think to check where the plane was coming from. Maybe from where he lives. Florida? Alabama?

You wait for the captain to turn the seat belt light off, and a piece of you hopes for turbulence, hopes the light will stay on and on and on until you disembark in Portland. You’ll promise to reschedule but of course you won’t, and—the seat belt light clicks off. He’s free to move about the plane.

You do what he told you to do.

You unbuckle your seat belt and drape the flimsy airline blanket over your lap. There’s no one in 34A, and you wonder if he bought that ticket, too. You push your armrests up. There are only the three seats on this side of the aisle: across the aisle an old man has fallen asleep reading the in-flight magazine. The flight attendant turns his light off as she passes.

You sit and wait.

This Book In A Nutshell:
They met, they fucked, the end.
Review:
For followers of the Paranormal Shifter series this book might mean something. But I am not a follower of that series. In fact, this is the first book I've read of this author. I was sampling this author's work, so to speak. Her "author's voice" is not so bad. But the story hasn't got much of a content to it. They met, they fucked, the end. Even for a short story, that is pretty insubstantial.

Empirical Evaluation:
Story telling quality = 2.5
Character development = 2
Story itself = 0.5
Ending = 0.5
World building = 1

Review: SASHA'S CALLING

Sasha's Calling by T.C. Archer

Genre: science fiction erotica

Format: ebook

About Sasha's Calling:
Nothing can stop freelance thief Sasha Smirnov from saving her planet -- except, Dirk, the gorgeous ambassador with polychrome eyes. Is it lust or designer pheromones? He is hot, too hot to resist -- or forget. A single, sizzling kiss burns him into her memory, and her body, but she can't afford to stop for passion, let alone love.

Sasha needs to get as far away from Dirk as possible and take the classified data she stole with her. So she stows away on a ship outward bound, only to discover Dirk's the pilot. Now she can't get away from him, or the system, but he will let her into his bed...
Source: Info in the About Sasha's Calling was taken from the publisher's site at http://www.loose-id.com/Sashas-Calling.aspx on 30/03/2011.

Review:
Sasha Smirnov is on a mission to save her planet and the people on it. Not only is the safety of Magnus 3 important but also the safety and sanity of her father. Working freelance and sneaking on to Centor, where she is stealing important information. Sasha is discovered and a chase ensues which leads Sasha to stumble upon the Warp Generator. This technology will save her planet. To get this information into the right hands (these hands do not include her boss's Orsans enchanced mauling hands) She must escape alive and avoid the Pinkertons who seem to know her every move. Before Sasha can escape Centor, she runs directly into Dirk Roscoepilot and in an attempt to hide from her persuers, she takes the initiative, plasters herself to Dirk in an explosive kiss. Fleeing to the nearest ship and determined to stowaway to safety, Sasha is having complex feelings about that kiss and the reaction she's having to it. What she doesn't expect is to encounter Dirk again, or that the ship she is hiding on is none other than his and he's determined to finish what she started.

I really enjoyed this book. It was fast paced, full of action with a few laugh out loud moments. Really, who wouldn't want some maxi-boob cream?? I'd actually prefer some boob-be-gone, and would love Dirk to rub some of that on me :) I loved the chemistry between Sasha and Dirk. It was an instant, hot attraction and Sasha was sure she was fighting some pheromone Dirk was wearing causing her feelings to go haywire because having such strong feelings for Dirk just seemed impossible. Dirk's character seemed somewhat questionable, I knew he had feelings for Sasha, but his motives were throwing me off. Sasha wasn't sure she could trust him. I knew these two needed to be together and as we gleamed more information about Dirk I was able to let my guard down with him as Sasha was doing the same. Overall, this was a really good read for me, the only thing that maybe bothered me a little, was all the terms. I've only read a few books that have been based in space and I would of loved to have a glossary to refer to, to some of the other planet names, or other species we encountered. It also threw me off at the end when Sasha acknowledged she loved Dirk and told him she loved him but he didn't say it back. I would have like to have heard Dirk say it as well. The story was told through Sasha's point of view and I knew how she was feeling, but I would of liked to have a glimpse into Dirk's feelings. Regardless, I still really enjoyed this and can't wait to see what else T.C. Archer puts out.

A Touch of Greek

Synopsis from Amazon:

Selfish and gorgeous Greek God Triton is cast out of Olympus after seducing Zeus' mistress and can only gain reentry if he finds a woman who loves him for his kindness and selflessness, not his beauty. While defending Sophia from an unknown adversary, Triton's protective instinct emerges. At the same time rival Gods do everything to doom him to failure. And even if Triton can win Sophia's love, will he throw it away to return home, or will he lose his own heart to the only woman who truly sees him?

A Touch of Greek is the first book in the humorous and sexy paranormal romance series Out of Olympus following the romantic adventures of four Gods: Triton, Dionysus, Eros, and Hermes.

My Review:

A Touch of Greek is the first novel by Tina Folsom that I have had the pleasure of reading, and I must say... I loved this book!

Even though this book is HOT at times, the erotica doesn't take over the romance that Tina writes.  Which, by the way, is simply beautiful.  Sophia and Triton face outward challenges that are both earthly and godly, while at the same time, battling issues within themselves.  The intense situations and emotional trials kept me turning pages at a steady pace.

Unlike some erotic romances that I have read, A Touch of Greek had an interesting and deeply thought out plot.  The story intertwined with the romance was fresh and original, and the characters were easy to relate with.  Yes, even Triton.  Even though he is a God, he has real issues to deal with.

The erotic portions of the book were done with class and taste.  Tina incorporated steamy scenes into her book without taking over the story or making it sound like a porn show.  They were very well written and made the book better, rather than worse.

A Touch of Greek was a very pleasant read.  Tina Folsom's writing flowed well and kept me interested from start to finish.  Not only is the romance beautiful, the erotic moments HOT, and the plot intense, but her writing is so easy to read and flows perfectly.  This is a story that will leave you with a smile on your face and a glow in your heart.  I look forward to reading more of Tina's books, especially others in the "Out of Olympus" series!

My Rating:  4 moons!

Interview With the Earl of Granville & Giveaway

Today is the first stop for the Sex & Subterfuge virtual book tour and we have with us the scrumptious Earl of Granville!

  • First of all... please tell us a little more about yourself.
I am Lucien Harrington, Earl Granville, Viscount Harrington. You, my dear, (lifts hand to kiss the back of it) may call me Lucien. My parents have recently been murdered, and I’m searching for their killers, which is why I currently reside on my steamship, sailing from the upper regions of Canada, down the coast of the United States. My next stop is Philadelphia.

Unfortunately, I had to leave my beloved sister, Isadore, in England. She couldn’t travel with me after our parents’ murder, and while she’s with close friends, I don’t want her alone. However, I do have ways to keep in touch with her.

  • Are you into reading books? If so, what is your reading list?
I tend not to have a lot of time to read, I’m very busy with my shipping business and currently with searching the entirety of North America for the mysterious Blackthorne line. Being a strong magicker myself, I also have to keep a low profile, there are a lot of people out there who will turn me in for the few pounds they’ll receive from the Witch Hunters. Still, I do enjoy Charles Darwin, an interesting fellow him, with interesting ideas, as well as Mr. Tolstoy’s War and Peace, Charles Dickens, Alexandre Dumas.

Between searching for magickers, smuggling them from the Witch Hunters, campaigning for more magicker freedom, keeping my own Druidic heritage secret, and now searching for the missing master line, the Blackthornes, my life is full. Pity, I enjoy a good drama.

  • If you could have one superpower, what would it be? What kind of power would you choose?
My dear, I already have superpowers, as you call them. I control the water. I love the sea, always have, and it listens to my every command. Hurricanes and typhoons? I can sail straight through them with no problems. I can create storms, too, to lash out at any enemy ship.

I wouldn’t want to be gouache, however, and am very discreet with my powers.

  • What is the scariest thing you’ve ever done?
Looking into my sister, Isadore’s, face when our parents were murdered and telling her I wouldn’t be there for her. That I was going to the Americas in a fruitless attempt to find a master magicker line that hasn’t been heard of in over 150 years.

However, the scariest sight I’ve ever seen is when I angered Isadore and her dearest friend, Raven. It was a day I’ll not soon forget and the day I learned that even the bravest of men can run for their lives. I was in my early teens, home from Eton. I have absolutely no idea what I did, but the two of them together, magicks all but sparking out of their fingertips, presented a sight I’ll not soon forget.

  • :) If a powerful entity grants you one wish, what would your wish be?
To remove Sir John Corwin, Head Witch Hunter, from this earth. Not kill him, if it was that simple I’d do it today. No, I fear he’ll become a martyr for his cause if murdered, but I want him disgraced, embarrassed, plucked from this world as if he never existed.

However, my utterly selfish wish would be to speak with my parents once more, to hear my father’s boisterous laugh, to feel my mother’s energetic presence. And to apologize for not preventing their deaths. They died right in front of me at an innocuous picnic on our estate, and I was helpless to do anything to prevent it.

We are sorry to hear of your parent's death, Lucien! But we hope that you would be successful in your quest...

Sex & Subterfuge by Isabel Roman
Book 2 of the Dark Desires of the Druids series

About Sex & Subterfuge:
A master magicker, Morgana Blackthorne has a tenuous hold on her following. When a strange Englishman arrives on her doorstep with news of other druidic magickers, and magicker problems, she’s intrigued but suspicious. There hasn’t been contact between the American and European druids in over a hundred years. Plus she has her own worries and doesn’t need the handsome earl adding to them.

Lucien, Earl of Granville, left England to seek out the Blackthorne Druid line and discover what they’ve been up to since contact was lost. Once he and Morgana meet, their mutual attraction distracts him from his puropse. Embroiled in her problems, he finds himself more concerned with her welfare than is practical for a passing affair.

When I invited you into my bed, it never occurred to me I wouldn’t want you to leave.

There are darker forces at work and the hunger of a weak magicker desperate for power. Will Lucien convince Morgana of his true feelings before things spiral out of control? Or will the surrounding subterfuge tear them apart?

SHADES OF MIDNIGHT

Shades Of Midnight by Lara Adrian
Book 7 of the Midnight Breed (MB) series

Genre: urban fantasy, paranormal romance, vampire, erotica

About This Book:
In a frozen wilderness steeped in darkness, the lines between good and evil, lover and enemy, are never black or white but drawn in SHADES OF MIDNIGHT . . .
Something inhuman is stalking the frigid Alaskan wilds, leaving unspeakable carnage in its wake. For bush pilot Alexandra Maguire, the killings stir memories of a horrific event she witnessed as a child and evoke in her the inexplicable sense of otherness she has long felt but never fully understood . . . until a darkly seductive stranger with secrets of his own enters her world.

Sent from Boston on a mission to investigate the savage attacks and stop the slaughter, vampire warrior Kade has his own reasons for returning to the frigid, forbidding place of his birth. Haunted by a secret shame, Kade soon realizes the stunning truth of the threat he faces--a threat that will jeopardize the fragile bond he has formed with the courageous, determined young woman who arouses his deepest passions and most primal hungers. But in bringing Alex into his world of blood and darkness, Kade must confront both his own personal demons and the even greater evil that could destroy all he holds dear.

My Take On This Book:
The story telling quality is good but not quite a masterpiece. I would give it a 4 out of 5. The story itself is also good but not terribly original. Maybe because I've read the Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward and the Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon already that it has now grown old on me?! Perhaps. I would give it a 2 out of 5. The cover art... If I was browsing the shelves of a bookstore on a retail therapy binge, I would pick this book up as a potential buy just by it's cover alone... that's a 4 out of 5. So for entertainment value, I would give this book a 3.5 out of 5.

This is the latest release of the Midnight Breed (MB) series which is by now composed of seven books. And this is the first MB book I've read. I probably would have a better appreciation of characters and events if I've read this series in sequence instead of jumping straight to Book 7. But, even though this is Book 7 of the MB series, it can be read as a stand alone. There is enough background information provided within the pages so that the readers don't get confused. But like I said, it would give the reader a better appreciation of characters and events if read in sequence.

Overall Rating: 3.5 out of 5 cherries
